The election is in the home stretch and polls indicate a razor thin outcome. The Obama or Romney presidency will not be decided until the wee hours of election night and perhaps not until late in the days to follow. It is highly possible that one candidate will win the electoral vote and the other the popular vote and this scenario favors President Obama. If he takes Ohio he has many other paths to achieving 270 electoral votes and reelection. This outcome would lead to loud protests from the Republican right that could be expected to seek any and all legal means to challenge the outcome. They can be expected to conveniently ignore that this scenario has happened in the past; most recently in the Bush – Gore election when the electoral vote did not coincide with the popular vote but this time they would be on the losing end and Justice Scalia will be asked to stand by for a repeat of the ruling on the Florida recount. Right wing pundits will be in high gear extolling violations of the intent of the founding fathers and preparing for revolution.
The Republicans have calculated that this is a pivotal election for their brand. By 2016 or at the latest by 2020, white men will not have sufficient numbers to determine by themselves the outcome of a national election. By then, they will become just another minority, dependent upon others to form a majority. If they assume the presidency over this eight year span they could initiate legal changes that will diminish the real numbers of women, Hispanics and African Americans. This is their Alamo and they know it.
This sea of change will mean the abandonment of planks in the Republican platform intended to control women’s rights; tax policies that favor the wealthy; defunding education; the total elimination of affirmative action etc., hiding the primary objective of the Republican Party to reduce the obligation of the super-rich to contribute to the payment for services received. Ignorant white men who have absolutely nothing to gain will abandon a party that can no longer feed their need to feel superior.
In the history of the Republic, this election either gives the Republicans the opportunity to erect a firewall of changes to come or relegates white men in the Deep South who fought a civil war to maintain their dominance to permanent dependency on women, Hispanics and African Americans. They will be free to continue their feelings of superiority, but they will not have the numbers to prevail.
You can expect that on election night they will do everything in their power to hold back the future; this is their stand. Vote!

Brilliant scenario. This is why the Right Wing is so against abortion. It means the end of their so called “Race”. I have never understood why it’s Congress’ business to legislate a woman’s right to choose, or gay rights to marriage either. It’s religious business not legislative business. Somehow I believe the insurance companies are behind it. They don’t want to pay out anything regarding these two matters.
